Cold Sintering Team

Overview of Project

The Cold Sintering Team aims to explore the applications of a recently discovered ceramics processing method. Specifically, we aim to synthesize new and different ceramics using this method, such as ceramics formed in a dissolvable 3D-printed mold. So far we have successfully replicated experiments from existing publications, and have moved on to unexplored territory.

Applications of the Project

Since the temperatures are so low, cold sintering can be used in tandem with 3D printing to create porous ceramics for use in machinery and catalysis. The ceramics can also be used in typical ceramic applications such as circuitry and aerospace components, but since it has a reduced energy cost, it could fill those roles more economically than traditionally sintered ceramics.
