Overview
Despite all the innovation coming from research groups across the world, research labs often forego or overlook sustainable practices in favor of efficiency in a results-driven world. However, we believe lab spaces can be both sustainable and efficient! The Sustainability Committee plans to analyze and improve common practices in the MILL related to waste, recycling, energy consumption, and equity.
During the Spring 2024 semester, we plan on working to:
- Recycle filament using the granulator and extruder
- Experiment to determine the optimal ratio
- Develop team members’ skills in characterization of materials, experiment design, and research
- Create projects to recycle other materials, such as paper, plastic bags, and clothing
