How to Use SUMS
Using SUMS for The MILL
SUMS is the system we use at The MILL for signing into the space, registering for equipment, and completing equipment training.
Getting Started
- Join The MILL Billing Group on SUMS
- You can do this by tapping in at the BuzzCard scanner at The MILL front counter during opening hours (Mon – Fri, 10 AM – 5 PM).
- Or alternatively, you can find the Materials Innovation and Learning laboratory Billing Group on SUMS
- Don’t worry, though it’s called a Billing Group, will never get charged for using the equipment at the MILL.
Registering for Equipment
- Go to Equipment Groups
- Select the equipment you want to use.
- Check Your Access
- If you do not see the “LOG INTO TOOL” option, you currently do not have access.
- Click “Click Here To Get Access” to see the requirements needed.
Completing Training
To gain access, follow these steps (Steps may be different depending on equipment):
- Read and Accept the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).
- Watch the Training Video.
- Attend a Training Session and Get Checked Off.
- Training sessions must be scheduled by entering multiple available time slots.
- The Technical Officer (TO) for the equipment will contact you through SUMS to confirm a date and time.
Reserving Equipment
- Once your training is complete, click on the calendar below the equipment information to reserve a time for usage.
Using Equipment at The MILL
- Log into the Tool
- Do this via the equipment page on SUMS or at the screen at the front desk.
- Access Equipment Pages Directly
- Click “Sign In / Reserve Here” on the equipment descriptions on this website.
- Remember to sign out at the end of your session.

- You can also easily access the SUMS page for the equipment of your choice by clicking “Sign In / Reserve Here” on each equipment description on the equipment pages on this website:
