Science of Sports

The Science of Sports L&D Team is led by Yixin Hu.

Overview

The Science of Sports L&D team is dedicated to improving understanding of the materials selection in sports. If you are curious about sports materials, polymers, and biomaterials and are computational driven, then this is the team for you.

During the Spring 2024 semester, we plan on working on:

  • Spatio-degradation characterization of random running shoes
    • Working with Atlanta Track Club and Emory Track and Field to determine when runners decide to throw away shoes
  • Basketball midsole characterization
    • Working with GT WBB to characterize foam quality after high impact forces
  • Spatio-temporal-degradation characterization of running shoes
    • Attempting to work with GT Track and Field to characterize how many different conditions (mileage, height, weight) affect degradation
  • Computational biomechanics analysis of running
    • Taking data from review study performed this summer to understand how polymeric foams transduce stress to the body
